What "aptitude" actually means here

Career aptitude tests don't measure what you're good at — they measure what you'd enjoy doing, which turns out to predict career satisfaction better than skill tests alone. RoleUSA uses the Holland Code (RIASEC), the framework behind the U.S. Department of Labor's own career tools:

Your answers produce a 3-letter code (like SAE or RIA) — your top three interest areas in rank order. Six letters, 120 possible codes, one that's yours.

Why 20 questions is enough

Longer tests (some run 100+ questions) mostly measure the same six interest areas with more repetition. Research on short-form interest inventories shows 3 well-chosen items per area captures your pattern reliably enough for career exploration — which is what a free test is for. We'd rather you finish in 4 minutes than abandon a 20-minute questionnaire.

One honest caveat: with 3 items per area, scores are noisier than a 60-question instrument. If your chart comes out flat, we say so openly ("broad interests") instead of faking precision.

Questions

Is it really free? What's the catch?

No catch. The test and full results are free. We don't ask for your email, your card, or an account.

How is this different from a personality test?

Personality tests (like MBTI-style assessments) measure traits — how you are. This measures interests — what you enjoy doing. For career decisions, interests are the stronger signal, and they're what the Holland framework was built for.

Will it tell me exactly which job to take?

No — and be suspicious of any test that claims to. It tells you which kinds of work fit you, narrowing hundreds of options to a shortlist worth exploring. The final call is yours, ideally with real conversations and cheap experiments.
